an anthology-like story about a dying world and its inhabitants. once having been a bustling planet, now named THE MORIBUND, is a land of death. cursed aeons ago by a power higher than the beasts and men, the sea became tainted by unruly and unholy creatures. only amalgamations seem to come from it, a dense fog surrounding the land as well. only 35% of the planet’s land remains, the rest submerged into the sea or consumed by ice and fog.
Humans/Elf: Referred to as both, due to their pointed ears, are the most common race. They are well versed in regular magics and fields, most commonly the elementals. They are unable to do cursed or holy magic and do not have any special physical traits.
Fiend: Somewhat of an offshoot of humans, fiends are those that appear human but have beastly traits elsewhere. Their non-human trait (as there is only one visibly given) will elevate them in that field. Common traits are things such as night vision, additional stomachs, tolerance to foods that may be inedible to humans, and many more. Another common term used to refer to them is beastmen, if they appear to be more beast than man.
Beasts: This the common term used to refer to monsters or creatures that are not umbrages/scotomimuses. These creatures consist of things such as dragons, chimeras, griffins, or anything else of that sort. As they came from the sea, their innards are likely faux and they are made up of the goop from the sea.
Angel: The highest level of being. Humanoid angels appear as typical angelic beings, having halos and wings to show their race. Their halos are what determine their level of power; brightest being the strongest, and dim being the weakest. They are able to transform their halo into objects of pure light, such as swords or other weapons and objects.
Angels can be more than just humanoid, though. they can appear beastly and pure, or as something that human minds cannot comprehend.
Umbrages/Scotomimuses: The horrific creatures from the sea. Their bodies and innards are typically solid black and are highly unstable. They are unable to use higher forms of communication are do not reproduce, only consuming things and splitting themselves to create another. They can look like just about anything, from a faux humanoid to a spiraling dragon.
Sinners: The more evolved form of umbrages and humans. Created accidentally due to misfortunate events, they’re the strangers and pariahs of the land; hated and feared by all. Although they look human enough and can preform human speech, their innards and appearance makes that uneven. They will always have blackened hands and feet, similar to the texture of a raven’s foot, an impish tail, and horns. Anything they touch will die instantly, so they usually cover themselves up if they care for human life. They tend to cough up their blood a lot; as they are a faux goop, it appears similar to blood and has the same effect as a scotomimus’ touch.
HOMUNCULUS: A subspecies to every other species, not including sinners. They’re natures’ mockery, imitating all other species to an uncanny degree. They are not shapeshifters, but they do pertain the ability to turn into other beings, and possibly to adapt to their magic. Though they can do that, they are almost fully unable to do magic without an external source (such as a deal or assistance device).

As it stands now, the Moribund is a dying world. It was always surrounded by the sea, which, at first, didn’t pose a threat. However, as more waste from the beings above, amalgamations secretly accumulated unmanageable and began to corrupt the land. Creations—both human and monster—began to arise from this sea, horribly mangled and grotesque. They were aggressive and only wished to consume. On rare occasions, humans would become consumed by the creations, assimilating into them.
This began the end of the Old World, giving way to the New World.
Fog AND MONSTERS from the sea began to slowly consume the countries, resulting in them being completely submerged in the water, minus the remaining few that the current map has.
The current year is unknown, but society has returned to being slightly more organized, and the population is more dense. People now organize themselves as knights and soldiers first and foremost, as battle is the only way to survive. The spawn from the sea is relentless and mindless, so war is the only way. From a young age, people are raised to be soldiers or essential workers (such as blacksmiths, medics, tailors, etc). THE JOB THAT MOST PEOPLE SEEK TO BECOME ARE Bounty HuntERS. They are also known as freelancers, assassins, mercenaries, and any other name. Their main goal is to rid the land of its accursed stains and fill in roles that the dead cannoT. They work on an honor and trade-and-barter system, gaining points from each job to exchange for goods and services, starting at ten and getting up to 1.
