CLARITHUM
The most reconstructed and livable place amongst the other four survivable countries. The climate experiences all four seasons and averages multiple types of terrain.

KALLERLOCH - THE CAPITAL

The so-called Capital of the World or the Bounty Hunters' City, Clarithum's capital houses a plethora of people. It's bustling and has the highest population of any known city.

OYERNOST
The most northern and freezing country. Its drenched in snow on top of the freezing temperatures, making it uninhabitable for humans. Dragons have taken over the eastern half.

ELKURST

A random settlement that a lone person still visits.

SCHILOVETCH
Once apart of the country that Oyernost once was before it split, this country is known for its weaponry and advanced building style.

"SOUTHERN OYERNOST"
A southern sovereign-state that was created during the migration from Villokold (Old Oyernost) to Schilovetch. They're known for their fishing and language.

OULIMBA
A nautical-related and tropical country. Being a bit separated from the rest of the world, this place is fairly peaceful. Rumors are often spread about legends of The Great Sea.

CRYTHRO
The religious capital of the world. The capital has very high security, which adds to the murmurs about the place being the closest to THE HEAVENS.

ADOVEL
A warm and frontier-like country. It's mostly known for its produce and markets, as well as textiles.

SAN EDIN
A very small and unknown town. It seems to be important.

As it stands now, the Moribund is a dying world. Firstly, the sea had never posed a threat. However, as more waste from the beings above, amalgamations secretly accumulated unmanageably and began to corrupt the land.  Creations—both human and monster—began to arise from this sea, horribly mangled and grotesque. They were aggressive and only wished to consume. On rare occasions, humans would become consumed by the creations, assimilating into them. It was far too late when retaliation begun, diminishing the world beyond repair.

Thus, it gave way to the end of the Old World, giving way to the New World.

Fog AND MONSTERS from the sea began to slowly consume the LAND, resulting in them being completely submerged in the water, minus the remaining few that remain charted on a map. With one country in the North being uninhabitable due to the fog and frost, people had to move. In the south, TAMPORA is off limits to those without a permit. THE CREATURES WITHIN THE FOG THERE ARE EVEN MORE UNKNOWN THAN THE ONES INLAND.

People stopped tracking the date, instead determining time from the latest historical event. Citizens now organize themselves as knights and soldiers first and foremost, as battle is the only way to survive. The spawn from the sea is relentless and mindless, so combatting against the sea was the only way. From a young age, people are raised to be soldiers or essential workers (such as blacksmiths, medics, tailors, etc).

People often work towards being BOUNTY HUNTERS. They are also known as freelancers, assassins, mercenaries, and any other name. Their main goal is to rid the land of its accursed stains and fill in roles that the dead cannot. They work on an honor and trade-and-barter system, gaining points from each job to exchange for goods and service. These people do not tend to live long due to their risky jobs, the ranks often flushing out by the end of the decade. the competition is hostile.

RACES

Humans/Elf: Referred to as both, due to their pointed ears, are the most common race. They are well versed in regular magics and fields, most commonly the elementals. They are unable to do cursed or holy magic and do not have any special physical traits.

Fiend: Somewhat of an offshoot of humans, fiends are those that appear human but have beastly traits elsewhere. Their non-human trait (as there is only one visibly given) will elevate them in that field. Common traits are things such as night vision, additional stomachs, tolerance to foods that may be inedible to humans, and many more. Another common term used to refer to them is BEASTMEN if they appear to be more beast than man.

Beasts: This the common term used to refer to monsters or creatures that are not umbrages/scotomimuses. These creatures consist of things such as dragons, chimeras, griffins, or anything else of that sort. As they came from the sea, their innards are likely faux and they are made up of the goop from the sea.

Angel: The highest level of being. Humanoid angels appear as typical angelic beings, having halos and wings to show their race. Their halos are what determine their level of power; brightest being the strongest, and dim being the weakest. They are able to transform their halo into objects of pure light, such as swords or other weapons and objects.

Angels can be more than just humanoid, though. they can appear beastly and pure, or as something that human minds cannot comprehend. These incomprehensible or non-man known creatures are called WARDENS or WATCHERS, who are beast-like “creatures” that live up to their name of observing mankind.

Umbrages/Scotomimuses: The horrific creatures from the sea. Their bodies and innards are typically solid black and are highly unstable. They are unable to use higher forms of communication are do not reproduce, only consuming things and splitting themselves to create another. They can look like just about anything, from a faux humanoid to a spiraling and incomprehensible beast.

Note that “SCOTOMIMUS” is a way to refer to the “goop” or “extract” from the sea.

Sinners: The more evolved form of umbrages and humans. Created accidentally due to misfortunate events, they’re the strangers and pariahs of the land; hated and feared by all. Although they look human enough and can preform human speech, their innards and appearance makes that uneven. They will always have blackened hands and feet, similar to the texture of a raven’s foot, an impish tail, and horns. Anything they touch will die instantly, so they usually cover themselves up if they care for human life. They tend to cough up their blood a lot; as they are a faux goop, it appears similar to blood and has the same effect as a scotomimus’ touch.

HOMUNCULUS: A subspecies to every other species, not including sinners. They’re natures’ mockery, imitating all other species to an uncanny degree. They are not shapeshifters, but they do pertain the ability to turn into other beings, and possibly to adapt to their magic. Though they can do that, they are almost fully unable to do magic without an external source (such as a deal or assistance device).

Creatures not accursed or holy, yet a unique an separate thing. Even calling them creatures is dubious. They live up to their names, coming in forms that peak above the clouds. They can only be found in Tampora’s deep fog or nearby, so many assume their origin is of the fog. There’s many subspecies that fall within the same name, making it difficult to summarize them. Their bodies are solid black with bone-like malformations wrapping around their bodies. Typically, they have “mask” or skeletal-like faces.

CHARACTERS & story

STORY

Lament is an anthological series told across multiple forms. As it's still in development, the main version of the story has NOT been released. It is planned to be told through a comic, amongst whatever else will be made along the way. Currently released materials can be considered canon, but are subject to change.

Each part contains a vastly different story, but one thing remains; all are about a dying world and its inhabitants. Once having been a bustling planet, now named THE MORIBUND, is a land of death. Cursed eons ago by a power higher than the beasts and men, the sea became tainted by unruly and unholy creatures. only amalgamations seem to come from it, a dense fog consuming the land. It's up to the inhabitants of each part of the story to tell how they choose to live within this world.

CHARACTERS

Note that there are many more characters, but these are the important and main few.

FULL NAME: Akani Osterlund
AGE:  21
GENDER: Female
SPECIES: Sinner
OCCUPATION: Rank 1 Bounty Hunter, Bartender

INFORMATION:  Not much is known about AKANI, as she keeps her secrets quite well. She appeared out of nowhere 3 years ago, shooting her way up the leaderboard with frightening speed. Her killcount and skill is unmatched, leading many to be angered by her species’ advantage of killing all that it touches. She doesn’t seem to care about that, and really just wants to be left alone.

She seems to be an accomplice of MAR,  as the two of them are often seen together.

SKILLS:

  • REVIVAL: Due to  a contract, Akani lost the ability to die permanently. She can die 6 times in one spot before needing to return to the sea; this only works if she has killed enough things to regain the equivalent of her body composition in SCOTOMIMUS EXTRACT. If she does not have the needed amount to regain her body, she will spawn in the sea.
  • REGNERATION:  Similar to her revival ability, if she has enough SCOTOMIMUS EXTRACT left over, she can regenerate body parts.
  • SUMMON: Akani can summon her weapon from her own “blood”, as well as make many other weapons from it as long as she has enough “blood”. With her scythe in particular, once it become coated in enough blood of the sea, it mutates and begins to appear strange, but gains much more power.

FULL NAME: Mar Vidal
AGE:  22
GENDER: Female
RACE: Cherub
OCCUPATION: Rank 2 Bounty Hunter

INFORMATION:  Coming from a small town with a mother who was made for sharpshooting, Mar grew up learning how to fire a gun. She’s a perfect shot, making up for her utter failure in every other physical category. She’s strange and ominous, but her looks and somewhat endearing personality make up for her odd comments. She’s far more brains than brawns.

She’s THE HUNTER’s self proclaimed best friend and roommate, but people are a bit scared to question her. She can also be seen with THE BLADE OF THE NORTH, but the friendship between them seems more probable.

SKILLS:

  • REVIVAL: Due to  a contract, Mar lost the ability to die permanently. She does not like to use this, and avoids dying as much as possible. One incident even changed her appearance completely.
  • SUMMON: On the incredibly small chance that she can get her holy powers to work, she can fashion small items out of her halo; usually weapons or small tools. They aren’t very stable due to her lack of power.

FULL NAME: Neryn “Nero” Calhoun
PERSONALIZED NAME: Nero Delwyn CCXII
AGE:  27
GENDER: Female
RACE: Homunculus (Human)
OCCUPATION: Rank 2 Bounty Hunter,  Ex-Cavalryman

INFORMATION:  Disowned from her high-ranking family from a young age due to her refusal to confine to her Father, ALPIN CALHOUN‘s, rules, she’s an independent person. She’s quite dodgy and hard to get ahold of, wandering from place to place in a search for a way to break her curse. Rumor has it that she was cursed by one of the dragons in OYERNOST, but none can confirm. She’s hiding a frostbitten arm and odd scar underneath her bandages, but her proclaimed title of THE BLADE OF THE NORTH separates her physical body from herself under the helm of her armor.

She took care of MAR when she was a child, so the two are quite close. She was once allied with the KING OF KALLERLOCH‘s daughter, AENID KVELDSSANG, but after her abandonment of post, the two’s friendship seems questionable to the public.

SKILLS:

  • FROSTBITE: Due to her curse, she’s immune to all forms of the cold. Similarly, she’s incredibly proficient in ice magicks.
  • VERGLAS: When in the north, near a certain location, her armor transfigures into a different set; white and with a fur coat. On top of this, her sword becomes quite the odd spectacle. Both are weightless.

FULL NAME: Baiza Vidal
AGE:  30~ (Immortal)
GENDER: Female
RACE: Archangel
OCCUPATION: Priest, manages THE ARCHIVES

INFORMATION:  Born from a RAVEN and created for the single purpose of getting rid of a stain on the planet, she guards the world in a strange way. She’s dedicated herself to getting rid of her enemy, not stopping for anything. She’s an excellent shot with a shotgun, having had 3 billion years to perfect her craft and adapt to being born with one eye. She has a different way of sentencing the sin of the world, but it’s better to not think about it.

She, as her last name suggests, is MAR’s mother. She raised her in the town of SAN EDIN, telling her to fire at THE RAVENS on their shared farmstead. She still resides in the town, watching over THE ARCHIVES.

NAME?: “CIRIAN”
AGE:  30~ (Immortal)
GENDER: Female
RACE: The First Sinner
OCCUPATION: ?

INFORMATION:  Born from a RAVEN that was purposefully drowned in THE GREAT SEA, she had it rough from the start. Driven purely by acrimony, she wishes to blaze everything in her path and make it heed to her call. She’s bad luck as a living being, having never brought anything more than misfortune upon the planet. She’s been cursed to never die as her punishment, save if BAIZA finds a way to kill her permanently.

Her main goal has always been to oppose BAIZA, attempting to make her life a living hell as an act of defiant revenge. In this act, she doomed everybody else.
